The name Cristiano Ronaldo is synonymous with the sport. The superstar was in the stands for his side’s game against Al-Hazem in the Saudi Pro League. Fans reiterated just how crucial Ronaldo is to Al-Nassr following their 4-4 draw to the ‘worst’ team in the league. The #7 had picked up a one-match ban for an obscene gesture he made at Al Shabab fans.
A video captured an emotional moment for the 39-year-old, as the crowd chanted his name in unison. The video shows Ronaldo initially nodding his head in tune to the chants of the crowd before being enraptured by the thousands of supporters chanting his name. ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ sang the crowd in the seventh minute, as cameras focused on the superstar.
A few seconds later, it was evident that the crowd’s gesture captured his heart. The Al-Nassr captain appeared emotional as he took in the atmosphere of the thousands that had assembled to see the game.
The chants quickly erupted into cheers as he waved to his fans, and pumped his fist in response. A fan commented that he wasn’t ready to see the superstar hang up his boots. With his electrifying skills and unmatched charisma still going strong at 39, neither are the fans.
Ronaldo-less Al-Nassr concede four at home to ‘worst’ team in the league
Cristiano Ronaldo’s importance to Al-Nassr cannot be understated. The Portuguese superstar was absent from the squad that faced Al-Hazem in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday. A one-match ban forced the Saudi Pro League top scorer to watch on as his side failed to overcome Al-Hazm, who are 20th in the league. The 39-year-old went through all the emotions as an Anderson Talisca hat-trick was not enough to beat the bottom placed side.
The three points against Al-Hazm seemed like ‘easy’ pickings for the Faris Najd, who were on a 4 game unbeaten streak prior to Thursday’s clash. Several fans pointed out how League leaders Al-Hilal put 9 goals past Al-Hazm while Al-Nassr without Ronaldo couldn’t manage a win. The home side took the lead in the 31st minute from the spot as Anderson Talisca netted his 14th goal of the season. Either side played a game of ‘catch up’ as Al-Hazm kept on equalizing.
The game ended 4-4 as Paulo Ricardo grabbed the eighth and final goal of the game in the tenth minute of injury time. The draw meant that Al-Nassr dropped crucial points in their pursuit for top spot, currently held by Al-Hilal. The table toppers are on 62 points, while Al-Nassr, who are second, find themselves nine points behind.
