Cristiano Ronaldo had a terrible night on Monday. His team, Al Nassr, was knocked out of the AFC Champions League on penalties by Al Ain. The match was an exciting one, with 7 goals combined. Ronaldo scored a match-saving penalty in the 118th minute, which was also his 750th career goal. Sadly the match won’t be remembered for his efforts, but for the mistakes he made.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed the open net from barely yards away in the 60th minute, and struggled to find the back of the net. During the extra time, he had gotten a 1v1 situation against the Al Ain keeper, but hit it on the keeper.

The touring fans ensured to give him a hard time too, as they kept chanting Lionel Messi’s name to irk the Portuguese legend. In the 49th minute, he was tackled by an Al Ain defender in the box and he dived in hopes to win a penalty.

Ronaldo ran to the referee in hopes to be awarded a penalty, but the referee knew it wasn’t a foul. The Video Assistant Referee also checked, but decided there was no penalty. The Al Ain fans got louder, chatting out Messi’s name in glee.

Sadio Mane escapes red card after grabbing opponent by neck

Just minutes before Alex Telles had equalized the score line to get the game to extra time, there was a huge brawl initiated by Sadio Mane. Mane, who had joined from Liverpool, grabbed the neck of an Al Ain player.

Mane escaped a red card as well, with the match official showing the winger a yellow card. Hernan Crespo, the Al Ain manager, was not happy with Mane escaping being sent off. An Al Nassr player was sent off later for his conduct.

After the match ended, a huge fight between the two sides began. The coaches and officials had to break apart the players, with Cristiano Ronaldo also being in the middle of the fight.

This now meant Al Nassr were out of the AFC Champions League, with the only chances at silverware being the Saudi Pro League and Saudi Super League. Unfortunately, the title looks impossible to win, as they stand 2nd with 12 points behind Al Hilal. Al Nassr will play Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup semi-finals as well.
