The video in question shows how Portugal players opt not to pass to the Al-Nassr captain on several occasions!

While opting to make a pass ultimately depends on a player, the social media post has blown up, with some fans holding Ronaldo’s teammates accountable. The viral clip is from the game on Wednesday, which saw Portugal take on Slovenia away from home. The game ended 2-0 in Slovenia’s favor, with Portugal’s unbeaten run coming to an abrupt end.

Portugal had won the first game of the international break in emphatic fashion, as a Ronaldo-less squad scored five against Sweden. His inclusion to the squad against Slovenia and their subsequent loss has called for mixed reactions on social media.

The original clip showing the players opting not to pass to the No.7 led to fans blaming them for ignoring him despite all his contributions to the national team.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s contribution to the Portugal national team cannot be understated. Despite his form taking a significant dip in recent times, he remains the all-time top scorer for Portugal. He led his side to victory in two major international tournaments – the 2016 European Championship as well as the UEFA Nations League in 2019.

The fact that players now chose not to pass to Ronaldo did not sit well with many fans. A supporter said that it was shameless and regretful that professional footballers acted in disrespectfully towards Ronaldo. Another added that he was waiting for Ronaldo to retire to stop watching Portugal play.

However, many others were in support of the players’ decisions. A fan commented that every single scenario in the clip offered a better option than passing to Ronaldo and that his fanbase was just making things up. Another said that he’ll surely lose possession if he received the ball. Many took the opportunity to troll the No.7 and added that he messes up Portugal’s style of play.

Whether he will be a starter at this year’s European Championship in Germany remains to be seen. His partner, Georgina Rodriguez had earlier mentioned that Ronaldo will play a maximum of one or two years more before hanging up his boots.
