Cristiano Ronaldo is no stranger to iconic celebrations. The 38-year-old proved the same yet again on Monday. Ronaldo and Al-Nassr locked horns with Istiklol in the AFC Champions League. The veteran striker scored his first-ever goal in the competition. Al-Nassr prevailed 3-1 on the night. Following his goal, Ronaldo recreated his iconic ‘calma’ celebration.
After his goal, Ronaldo was seen pointing to himself before gesturing that he ‘had it under control’. Cristiano debuted his celebration against Barcelona in 2012. While the celebration against Barcelona was energetic and passionate, the one against Istiklol was more composed and subtle. The celebration has then gone viral on social media.
Ronaldo has debuted a variety of goal celebrations after his move to Saudi. The Portuguese veteran was seen imitating a classical folk dance for one of his celebrations. Ronaldo scored a goal in a comeback win for his side in the AFC Champions League. Al-Nassr is top of Group E with two wins in two games.
Al-Nassr makes a comeback win against Istiklol in the AFC Champions League
Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr took on Istiklol in the AFC Champions League. On matchday 2, Cristiano and co. found themselves trailing at half-time. After a dominant display in the first half, Istiklol scored a goal right at halftime. The goal caught Al-Nassr off-guard. Senin Sebai poked the ball past Al-Aqidi to make it 1-0 at halftime. Their lead didn’t last long as Cristiano pulled one back for the home side.
Ronaldo’s chip at the near post flew past the Istiklol goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Cristiano was seen recreating his iconic ‘calma’ celebration after the goal. Constant pressure from the home side finally paid off. Al-Nassr quickly regained through Anderson Talisca. Six minutes after the Ronaldo goal, Al-Nassr went ahead thanks to a Talisca header.
The Brazilian was not done yet. The #94 curled the ball past the keeper to ensure that his side secure all three points on the evening. A quickfire brace and a Ronaldo goal helped Al-Nassr see off Istiklol after a scare at halftime. The Riyadh-based club faces Abha next in the Saudi Pro League. They are fourth in the League with 18 points in 8 games.
