“Cristiano Ronaldo is a player with ego”- The Portuguese desperate to leave Manchester United as he fears Lionel Messi might overtake him
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
According to Tony Cascarino, Cristiano Ronaldo is anxious to leave Manchester United because he believes Lionel Messi will surpass his record for goals scored in the Champions League.
Just a year after re-signing for United from Juventus, it was announced on Saturday that Ronaldo has told the Old Trafford leadership that he wants to depart this summer. Ronaldo allegedly has no interest in competing in the Europa League for United under new manager Erik ten Hag next season. United missed qualifying for the Champions League after a disastrous Premier League season last year.
The Portuguese great, 37, is anxious to compete for significant awards in his later years of play, but Cascarino thinks that his desire to leave Manchester United this summer is motivated by his concern over losing one of his most spectacular personal records to Messi.

Where should Cristiano Ronaldo go if he leaves Manchester United?
Ronaldo has scored 141 goals in the Champions League over the course of the previous 19 years, becoming him the competition’s all-time leading scorer. Messi, who will represent Paris Saint-Germain in the event the following year, is only 16 goals behind his adversary.
And Cascarino is certain that Ronaldo’s quest for a transfer is motivated by his “ego” and that particular record. According to Cascarino, “Ronaldo is a player with an ego as he always has been. Although a lot of it is about him, the successful teams he has played on are always the best bet as a team player.”
“Great, he scores goals, he receives recognition, and he’s one of the best players to ever play the game,” someone said. As long as you’re succeeding, you can have anything. When you lose, you now have a problem.
