According to reports, Manchester United are convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club beyond January, in large part because no team wants to sign him. Since the legendary Portuguese player’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, he will be free to speak with international clubs in January.

According to sources who spoke to ESPN, the club believes the 37-year-old will remain at Old Trafford at the end of the January transfer window due to a shortage of interested parties. It’s claimed that United have informed Erik ten Hag that he is unlikely to receive any funds to improve his squad until next summer, thus reducing the likelihood of the forward leaving the club.

In his first few games with United, Ronaldo has struggled mightily, managing just one goal that being from 12 yards against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League, and losing his starting spot to Marcus Rashford. Following a summer in which Ronaldo shocked Europe by formally requesting to leave the club, this has happened.

A player of his calibre and renown would have anticipated greater interest, but there was significantly less of it. Only one specific offer, from the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, was presented in response to Ronaldo’s decision during the summer when clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Napoli, and Real Madrid distanced themselves from a possible transfer.

However, the club is prepared for additional attempts to move the player away, particularly in light of manager Erik ten Hag’s admission that the player is ‘p* off’ at being a bench player. The Dutchman said: “Especially Cristiano, he’s really competitive. Of course, he wants to play. He’s p***** off when he’s not playing. That’s clear.”

“He’s not happy he wasn’t playing on Sunday, but that wasn’t the question. The question was about how he is on the training pitch, his mood when he’s around, and he’s happy. He is training well. I don’t see he is unhappy. When we were 4-0 down, 5-1 down, 6-1 down, I didn’t bring him on out of respect. So nothing to do with what’s happening for the future, for January or next year.”
