Cristiano Ronaldo, a forward for Manchester United, will miss today’s preseason practice due to “family matters.”

After telling the Premier League team he wants to depart this summer, Ronaldo’s future with them is now in doubt. After United’s failure to finish in the top four of the Premier League, the 37-year-old is fervently hoping to play Champions League football once more the following season.

Ronaldo wants to go, but the club has openly said that they are not interested in selling him and that he still has one year remaining on his Old Trafford deal. Ronaldo’s excuse for skipping Monday’s training session, when the rest of the first-team players who participated in the international games in June will return to the club, is said to have been accepted by United.

Ronaldo’s future is still in doubt, and the 37-year-old striker is eager to fight for big trophies in the final stages of his career. However, he has grown irritated with the lack of ambition in the transfer market.

Although the club is still pursuing agreements for Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, United has so far failed to add a player this summer as Premier League rivals bolster their rosters.

If Ronaldo stays at Old Trafford, the upcoming season would mark the first time in almost two decades that he does not play in the Champions League after the Red Devils placed sixth in the Premier League the previous year.

It is thought that Ronaldo is not up for sale this summer in the eyes of United. The deal Ronaldo signed when he returned to United from Juventus last summer has 12 months left on it. Additionally, his contract contains an option for an additional year.

He was United’s leading scorer last season with 24 goals across all competitions, however, he was unable to aid in their Champions League qualification. The ambition to compete for titles and the lack of Champions League football the next season are said to be two factors in his decision to quit.
