Cristiano Ronaldo has put an end to all rumours suggesting a return to a major European league, emphasising his commitment to the Saudi Pro League. In a recent interview, the Portuguese superstar made it clear, stating, “I’m completely certain I won’t be going back to any European club.” He also said that his move was vital for the league’s success. He said, “I opened the way to the Saudi Pro League – and now all the players are coming here.”

Ronaldo also expressed his belief that European football, apart from the Premier League, has experienced a decline. “That door is completely closed. I’m 38 and football in Europe has lost its quality. The Portuguese league is good but not top. Premier league is above all the other leagues.” he said. This statement was given after Al-Nassr’s friendly against Celta Vigo, which they lost 5-0.

The Real Madrid legend’s move to Saudi Arabia has made huge waves in the current transfer window. Several top stars from Europe and other parts of the world are now contemplating moves to Saudi teams. Superstars like Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have joined champions Al-Itihaad. Young talents like Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Jota have also moved to the country.

This decision by the player might be great news for the league. Ronaldo’s stardom has benefited them heavily as many players are now considering it an option. Players like Bernando Silva and Bruno Fernandes have both been linked to the league. Many other stars in Europe could make their move in the future. A lot of credit for this goes to the Manchester United legend as he paved the way for all this.

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his intention to continue playing for the Portuguese national team. In an interview, he said, “Proving that I can set an example of longevity, at 38-and-a-half years old I think I’ll still do very interesting things. What? Goals, assists, good preparation in the Selection, having a good qualifying phase, a good European Championship and continue to do what I’ve done in my 21-year career.”

“I’ll continue to enjoy it the same way. I still feel useful and good. It’s continuing to enjoy football, which is what I like most.” His decision comes after eyebrows were raised about his performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was no longer the talisman for the team and was kept on the bench for most games.

However, under the new manager Roberto Martinez, the Al-Nassr striker is back on the team. He has thus decided to keep playing international football till 2024. He will be hoping that his performances in the Saudi Pro League will warrant call-ups for the national team.
