Cristiano Ronaldo’s early Old Trafford exit ‘unacceptable,’ says Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag slammed Cristiano Ronaldo and other players for leaving Old Trafford before the end of the club’s final pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano last weekend, calling their actions ‘unacceptable.’
Ronaldo only played the first half and was later photographed leaving the stadium while the game was still going on. Diogo Dalot, who had played just 24 hours earlier in a friendly against Atletico Madrid, was also visible in those images.
It was unclear whether Ronaldo and others had permission to leave at the time, but Ten Hag has responded and is not pleased by their action. “I certainly don’t condone this. This is unacceptable. For everyone,” he told
“We are a team and you have to stay until the end,” he added. Poor attitude was one of the main complaints levelled at United players last season, with successive managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick unable to get the most out of a talented squad.
Manchester United last season was disastrous to say the least
Discipline and fitness have been key pillars of Ten Hag’s brief tenure as manager, with the goal of preparing United to finally compete at their level after years of underachievement.
United’s point tally of 58 in 2021-22 was their lowest in a Premier League season, but new manager Ten Hag will hope that the addition of defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club Ajax strengthens the team.
Christian Eriksen, a creative midfielder, and Netherlands international Tyrell Malacia have also been signed, though the Frenkie de Jong saga with Barcelona continues, with Chelsea reportedly interested.
