During Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham, Cristiano Ronaldo got himself into trouble by rushing down the tunnel in the 89th minute. According to reports, the 37-year-old refused to make an appearance as a substitute; as a result, manager Ten Hag has dropped the striker from the first-team squad.

On Instagram, his sister Katia Aviero defended him in an odd post that contained a parallel to Jesus, a description of Ronaldo as a warrior, and a video of Jose Mourinho.

Aviero wrote on her Instagram: “No one who was born to shine by the hands of God will be undone by someone who has never worn his shoes. He is and will be history, There is a verse in the bible that says: ‘This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.’”

“He fulfilled the promise he made as a 13-year-old boy to his mum and siblings. This is the one whose accent was made fun of and was mocked over his alcoholic dad.” To further drive home her point, she later added to her Instagram story. One such video featured a clip from his former boss Jose Mourinho. The clip had Mourinho saying: “If you are not able to coach the big players you are not able to coach anyone.”

She even pointed to a post that was deleted when former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen defended the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in comments on it. All of this follows Ten Hag’s remarks prior to the Chelsea game, in which he expressed his desire for Ronaldo to apologise to the entire Manchester United team.

He has been excluded from the crucial game against Chelsea as a result of his conduct, but Fabrizio Romano thinks that he might be able to make a comeback the following week.
