Former Barcelona player Dani Alves may spend up to 9 years in prison. He’s been in jail since January, accused of s*xually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
Now, the Brazilian is set to face trial in Spain in the s*xual assault case. A court in Barcelona formally indicted Alves in August this year and decided there was enough evidence to put the player on trial. Meanwhile, he has responded to the allegations as well but there are no strong proofs other than the words right now. So, one can expect a longer trial for the player.
Despite Alves denying any wrongdoing, he says the encounter at the nightclub was consensual. However, his changing statements, initially denying any involvement, have resulted in Spanish courts rejecting multiple bail requests.
Furthermore, the prosecutor seeks for 9-year prison time for Dani Alves on top of the 150,000 Euros as compensation for the unacceptable crime. Spanish laws of r*pe and s*xual assault can lead to a prison sentence between 4 and 15 years if convicted. In such a case, the former Barcelona star may face a prolonged period in jail, further denting his image.
Pumas UNAM terminated Dani Alves’s contract
Mexican side, Pumas UNAM terminated the contract of the former Brazilian right-back, Dani Alves, after his arrest for s*xually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub, in December 2022.
On December 30, 2022, Dani Alves was accused of the allegations. He turned himself in and was arrested in January. UNAM, his Liga MX team, terminated his contract immediately, emphasizing their commitment to values and respect. The president of the club’s board of directors, Leopoldo Silva said:
With this decision, the club reiterates its promise not to tolerate acts by any member of our institution that violate the spirit of the institution and its values.
If found guilty in Spanish courts, Alves could face up to 9 years in prison. The renowned right-back, known for his stellar performances with Barcelona, Juventus, and PSG, may lose his standing in international football.
