Darwin Nunez rejects an £80 million transfer bid from Manchester United: Reports
In-demand Darwin Nunez of Benfica has allegedly turned down a summer transfer offer from Manchester United. After a stellar campaign in the Primeira Liga and Champions League, the Uruguayan international is likely to be one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers in the coming months, and is high on United’s transfer want list.
However, Manchester United’s hunt for Benfica attacker Darwin Nunez, who is said to be at the pinnacle of their striker wishlist, has lately been thwarted. Nunez netted 34 goals in all competitions this season, scoring in both legs of their European quarter-final against Liverpool, raising his tally in the tournament to six for the season, and he recently gave United a major boost by stating he was switching his agent this summer.
Is Darwin Nunez not willing to be a part of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United?
Darwin Nunez netted 34 goals in all competitions this season, scoring in both legs of their European quarter-final against Liverpool, raising his tally in the tournament to six for the season, and he recently gave United a major boost by stating he was switching his agent this summer.
United, along with rival Premier League side Newcastle, has launched a £68 million (€80 million) bid for the striker, according to RMC Sport. Nunez, on the other hand, is claimed to have turned down both clubs owing to his intention to keep playing in the Champions League, which he has dominated this season.
According to the Mirror, there are the only two teams who have made proposals for the Uruguayan frontman so far, while Paris Saint-Germain is still interested in him. PSG is concerned that Kylian Mbappe may depart as a free agent this summer, while Mauro Icardi, the club’s only other recognized striker, has uncertainties about his future.
Nunez’s biggest goal came in Benfica’s Round of 16 triumphs over Ten Hag’s Ajax, and he also scored in both legs of Benfica’s quarter-final against Liverpool, which Benfica lost 6-4 on aggregate. The attacker made an impact in the group stage triumph over Barcelona, scoring a double in the 3-0 win.
