Lionel Messi recently signed for MLS side Inter Miami after leaving PSG in the summer. He had a more lucrative offer tabled by Saudi side Al-Hilal but chose Miami for his family as they have a significant Spanish population. They struggled to adapt to their new life in Paris.
Messi was officially unveiled by the club in their stadium in front of a huge number of fans. However, the viewership numbers for the presentation touched 3.5 billion, according to Inter Miami owner David Beckham. This was a record-breaking figure, as it eclipsed Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr presentation, which was seen by 3 billion people.
Speaking to the crowd, Lionel Messi said, “I’m very moved to be here in Miami, I want to thank you for the kindness and love that you have given me. This has happened so fast … I’m anxious to train and compete. Our objective is to be here and win. I’m sure we’re going to have a wonderful experience.” The Argentine signed a two year contract in which he’ll earn around $60m a year.
The deal also includes a stake in the ownership of the club. He is expected to make his debut on Friday against Mexican side Cruz Azul. His signing is a huge deal for MLS, as the last time a player of his stature joined the league was Beckham back in 2007. However, the World Cup winner will be hoping to turn Inter Miami’s fortunes around as they languish at the bottom of the table.

Jordi Alba to reunite with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets
Spanish left back Jordi Alba is all set to join Inter Miami after leaving FC Barcelona for free in the summer. The deal was announced by the MLS side’s president Jorge Mas. The 34 year old will join his former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in Florida.
The player has already signed a contract and will make his debut against Atlanta United on Tuesday. He left Barcelona after 10 years in a very successful stint winning six La Ligas and one Champions League.
Many former teammates of Lionel Messi are joining the club, following in the footsteps of Messi. Another former teammate of his and close friend, Luis Suarez, is also linked with a move. The player currently plays for Gremio but could leave the club for the American club. Andres Iniesta is also linked with a move. However, that is unlikely to happen, as he recently announced his retirement.
