Bollywood DIVA Sonam Kapoor hosted football legend David Beckham at her residence in Mumbai

Former English captain David Beckham was hosted by Bollywood icon Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja at their residence in Mumbai. David Beckham is on a three-day visit to India as the UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador.

The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player, David Beckham, is currently in India as a UNICEF Global Ambassador. UNICEF and the International Cricket Council have teamed up to promote gender inclusion and women’s empowerment through cricket. During his stay, Bollywood couple Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja hosted a private dinner for Beckham and a few other important figures from the city, with only 25 guests in attendance as reported by ANI.

This dinner, planned by the Bollywood couple, took place on Wednesday. According to sources close to the family, David Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham are global icons, hinting that there might be more to this dinner than meets the eye. Additionally, during his visit, David went to Gujarat to meet young individuals and see UNICEF’s work, contributing to the advocacy for child rights and gender equality. In an interview with CNN News 18, he emphasized the importance of providing girls with the same opportunities as boys, stating that when India progresses, the whole world benefits.

This visit from David Beckham comes given India’s latest push towards women’s empowerment through sports as a medium. With this visit, football in India will also receive a major developmental push, especially in the light of the recent visits by many international footballers, which includes Brazilian legend Ronaldinho’s and World Cup winner and Argentinian shot stopper Emiliano Martinez’s Kolkata visits.

David Beckham was in attendance at the Wankhede Stadium, where the Indian Cricket Team hosted and defeated the New Zealand Cricket Team in the first semifinal of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The Blues are through to the Final as the footballing icon watched on from the stands.

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and David Beckham shared a moment before the game. Tendulkar, a UNICEF Ambassador, is part of the ICC-UNICEF Global Partnership. The Beckham-Tendulkar meet-up was anticipated, adding excitement for fans. Beckham greeted both teams before the match, wishing them luck.

Being in India, Beckham missed the funeral of England World Cup Winner Sir Bobby Charlton. Despite this, Beckham, a football great known for his time with Manchester United, is a six-time Premier League winner. Now co-owner of Inter Miami and Salford City football clubs, he remains a celebrated figure in the football world.
