“Does he know he doesn’t get paid his full wages if they want rid of him?”- Manchester United legend Gary Neville takes another dig at Barcelona over Jules Kounde’s transfer

Barcelona have announced they have reached an agreement to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, with the Blaugrana seeing off competition from Chelsea.

Kounde, who has starred for Sevilla since arriving from Bordeaux in 2019, seemed set to join Chelsea after also being heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the 2021 transfer window.

However, despite Barcelona reportedly failing to match Chelsea’s offer of £55million (€65m) for the 23-year-old, the Blaugrana had been touted as Kounde’s preferred destination. On Thursday, they announced a deal is now in place with Sevilla for the transfer of the France international, with the move subject to a medical.

He will become the latest addition of a crazy window for Barca who, despite having major financial problems, have completed deals for former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Franck Kessie.

Their ability to spend big but failure to pay wages in full of current players has raised questions about the way the club is run, with Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong understood to be owed £17million.

Gary Neville, who’s urged De Jong to consider legal action with Barca, aimed a further dig at the club following the Kounde announcement. “Does he know he doesn’t get paid his full wages if they want rid of him??” Neville tweeted.

This isn’t the first time Gary Neville has openly spoken about Barcelona’s finances and unable to pay wages to current players

Gary Neville had previously concerned his opinion on Frenkie de Jong not being paid his wages and urged FIFA to take action regarding the same. He tweeted, “De Jong should consider legal action v Barcelona and all players should be behind him! A club spending fortunes on new players whilst not paying the ones they have under contract their full money is immoral and a breach.”

He continued, “@FIFPRO should be all over bullying like this and stop it.” One of the biggest hurdles for Manchester United in signing Frenkie has been the fact that the player wants to be paid what he is owed before he moves on to a different club.
