“Doesn’t belong in the stands”- Manchester United and Chelsea managers condemn homophobic chants from fans during Premier League clash
Following reports of the chanting emanating from the away end at Stamford Bridge, Potter commented, “it’s apparent we’ve still got a lot of work to do.” The manager of Chelsea was responding to inquiries from reporters who had heard the chanting during the 1-1 draw on Saturday when Premier League clubs were supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign for LBGTQ+ inclusion.
When prompted by reporters, Manchester United Ten Hag responded, “It does not belong in the stands.” He also denounced taunts shouted at Raphael Varane as the United defender left the field injured.
Later, a representative for Manchester United stated: “Homophobia, like all forms of discrimination, has no place in football. Manchester United is proud of our diverse fan base and the work we have done to reduce instances like we sadly heard at Stamford Bridge. We will continue to campaign for inclusivity and to tackle discriminatory abuse whether inside stadiums or online. This includes working with fan groups to educate fans on the offence which discriminatory language causes.”

2022-23 Premier League: Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United: As it happened
Casemiro ended Chelsea’s defensive resilience with a 94th-minute header to rescue a dramatic 1-1 draw for Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Jorginho put the Blues in front by converting a penalty with three minutes of normal time remaining following Scott McTominay’s foul on Armando Broja.
But United, who left Cristiano Ronaldo out of their squad for disciplinary reasons, found a leveller through Casemiro’s first goal for the club in the dying embers after defender Raphael Varane had limped off in tears. The Red Devils remain a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who were unable to hold on for what would have been a sixth consecutive clean sheet, in the Premier League table.
