Eleven years ago, Chelsea were trailing 2-0 in the League Cup semi-finals. They lost 0-2 at home to Swansea City in the first leg and were struggling to score in the 2nd leg. With 10 minutes left for the match, the ball went out of play. The Swansea players were happy to waste time, but a ball boy took it further by refusing to give the ball back in the field.
Eden Hazard attempted to retrieve the ball from the ball boy, but the two started scuffling for it instead. The Belgian lost his cool and kicked the ball boy, which led to an uproar from fans, players and the manager. The referee decided to send off the winger and Chelsea were knocked out of the tournament.
Hazard revealed that he chatted with the ball boy and apologized, and 11 years after the incident they have met each other again. Charlie Morgan, the ball boy, is now an entrepreneur of a vodka brand worth £40 million.
Hazard retired from football at the age of 32. He met up with Morgan to promote his vodka brand and posted about it. In the tweet by Hazard, he wrote:
A nice thing about retirement is catching up with old friends. You have come a long in way in 11 years my friend.Eden Hazard on X
The two caught up and played golf with each other.
Who is Charlie Morgan?
Charlie Morgan is the son of Martin Morgan, the owner of the biggest travel agency business in Wales. Martin is also a director and partial stakeholder in Swansea City. Charlie was 17 years old when he got kicked by Hazard.
Three years later, he and a friend began their own vodka brand called Au Vodka. The brand sells flavored vodka and merchandise. It has since then become one of the biggest brands in the country, with partnerships with icons like Ronaldinho and Floyd Mayweather.
Now 27, Charlie Morgan’s vodka brand is worth £40 million. He was seen on the Sunday Times Rich List in 2022. He is also the heir of the £65 million empire of his father, who is still at Swansea City. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard retired from football after dealing with many injuries which ruined his football career.
