Ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard on a podcast hosted by retired Nigerian star John Obi Mikel, surprisingly picked former Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane as the Greatest Player of All Time. To the shock of many, Hazard snubbed two of the obvious choices – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Belgian baller engaged in a discussion Obi Mikel, as they discussed multiple subjects including his stint at Real Madrid and Chelsea’s position in the Premier League this season. He also spoke about the spectacular rise of Los Blancos sensation Jude Bellingham. Moreover, the former Belgian international weighed in on the ongoing debate between Messi and Ronaldo. He expressed his preference for French WC winner Zinedine Zidane, as the best player.
The footballer played against both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the past and believes that the Argentinean excels overall. Ronaldo, for him, stands out for his goal-scoring abilities and team contribution. However, he did not consider any one of them, and instead opted for Zidane, particularly because the Frenchman was his coach during a challenging period at Real Madrid. The 33-year-old, thus holds the Zidane in high regard.
Messi is the one if you talk about football. Ronaldo is the GOAT to score goals and to bring trophies to the team. Me, I am more my style of play is Messi, but for me the greatest is Zidane!
Furthermore, he mentioned that his playing style was more similar to Messi’s. Hazard had a disappointing ending to his career, after failing to live up to his potential at Real Madrid. Nonetheless, he had a highly successful period at Chelsea, where he secured two EPL titles.
