Coming fresh from Valencia to Boca Juniors, Edinson Cavani had set the hype for fans in Argentina. The veteran striker got his first goal for his new club in the 55th minute through a magnificent header past the keeper. The cross came from teammate Exequiel Zeballos at the far post, which the striker easily finished.
Cavani’s involvement earned his team a comfortable 3-1 victory over Club Atletico Platense in the second phase of the Argentine Championship. Cavani has inherited the legendary number 10. which was once worn by the club’s illuminating icon Diego Maradona. Fans were jubilant, saying he was doing justice to the iconic jersey as Cavani seemed to be comfortably set in his new league.
There was certainly a new energy in the home crowd, expecting a great season from their club in the ‘Copa de La Liga.’ This comes as a reaction to their arch-rivals River Plate winning the first trophy of the campaign as they look to improve their performances after last season. Cavani seems well-settled in Argentina, scoring in his second appearance for the blue and yellow.
However, teammates would have certainly glanced at his mighty contract with the club. If he stays fit and continues with his on-field performances, they would certainly not mind it for his quality. ‘El Matador’ seems to have already become a fan favorite at the ‘La Bambonera,’ but love doesn’t come without perks in Argentina. If Cavani fails to live up to his name, the fans might also spare no moment before becoming hostile against him.
