Donny van de Beek recently got a move away from Manchester United, where he failed to get any playing time. Often finding himself on the bench, the Dutch midfielder was desperate to play somewhere and finally got a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, his problems regarding playing time didn’t stop. He was not added to the club’s squad for the UEFA Europa Conference League, which meant he could only participate in the domestic competitions for Frankfurt.
The manager, Dino Toppmoller, recently revealed that he apologized to van de Beek, saying that he assured the midfielder enough game time forward in the season. He confirmed he has full confidence in the loanee and would have a role to play in the 2nd half of the season.
He’s only played a total of four games in the last two years, so it won’t happen overnight. But I have 100 per cent confidence in his quality, he’ll definitely help us in the second half of the season. I told Donny that I was sorry but also what I expected from him now.Dino Toppmoller on Donny van de Beek
Van de Beek recently featured in a u21 match for the club, where he scored and assisted twice. Toppmoller was impressed with his performance and said,
That showed me that he can handle the decision well. He is ready to take on the challenge.
What next for Donny van de Beek?
Donny Van de Beek has played only 62 times for Manchester United in the three years he was at the club, with 39 coming off the bench. He had a stint at Everton, but he failed to impress. He finally got a move away from the Red Devils in January 2024, when he got a loan to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Van de Beek has played only four matches so far, with all of them being starts. He has played a combined 235 minutes, being subbed out in all of his starts. He hasn’t shown anything special in his few appearances so far, failing to register a single goal or assist.
Frankfurt have the option to make the move permanent, as long as they pay €14 million for the Dutchman. United had purchased him for €47 million from Ajax. He still has half the season to prove that he could be a viable option for the German club.
