Gareth Southgate’s England Football National Team squad is optimistic about the competition in Qatar, where they aspire to make a big remark on the biggest stage in football. The instinctual advancement would posit that England will be aiming for victory this winter after reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup followed by the final of the European Championship in the summer of 2021.

However, Three Lion’s icon Shearer is worried about their defending reliability. Shearer said per BBC Sport: “I don’t see us going as far as we have done in the last two tournaments.”

England could encounter France in the last eight if both teams clinch their specific groups and last-16 fixtures. “I don’t see us being as successful, if that’s the word, as we have in the last two tournaments – getting to a semi-final and getting to a final,” Shearer added.

Injuries to several important players have shaken Southgate and put a few of his FIFA World Cup preparations in doubt. Reece James, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, and Ben Chilwell are all injured.

Southgate will name his ultimate 26-man squad for the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament on Thursday, with the world championship starting on Sunday, November 20. If England wins Group B, which also includes Iran, Wales, and the United States, they will face the winner of Group A, which includes the Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador, and hosts Qatar.

If they come in second, they will take on the winner of that group. England’s 2022 FIFA World Cup contest in Qatar begins on November 21 against Iran, followed by matches against the United States on November 25 and Wales on November 29. Southgate’s team could face France in the quarter-finals, followed by Belgium, Spain, or Portugal in the final four.
