Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis once warned his stars against following the money trail to England. Ezequiel Lavezzi was linked to Chelsea for a while, despite ruling out a move away from Napoli. De Laurentiis was running off at the mouth with reasons why his players should avoid England like the plague. There are desperate statements from clubs in their time when fighting to hold on to players, but this one really has to top the lot because in an effort to dissuade his players from opting for Premier League football.
Chelsea was chasing Ezequiel Lavezzi, while Napoli defender Fabiano Santacroce was wanted by Everton. De Laurentiis said: “We made these players, a few years ago nobody knew who they were. If they want to go to England then in the end they’re going to go, but they need to understand this: the English live badly, eat badly and their women do not wash their genitalia. To them, a bidet is a mystery.”
Most clubs want to make sure they keep hold of their star players. Most clubs though would just issue the warning “not for sale” or put up an exorbitant price tag. Not so for Napoli though because although that’s the approach their Sporting Director took a long time ago, their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis chose to take a different tactic.
Napoli President warns Manchester United and others interested in Victor Osimhen
Aurelio De Laurentiis has warned potential suitors that he is not ready to sell their superstar striker Victor Osimhen, as per reports. “I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer, no way,” De Laurentiis said. Napoli signed Osimhen from Lille for a club-record €72 million in 2020. However, after a first season that saw him score just ten goals in 30 appearances, there were doubts about his ability.
But last season, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker started showing his brilliance under coach Luciano Spalletti. Since the turn of last year, Osimhen has been incredible, and this season, he has proven that he can be one of the best in the world if he stays fit. The former Lille man has registered 27 goals and five assists in 33 appearances for the Partenopeans this season, helping them to their first Scudetto since Maradona led the club to victory in 1990.
He has smashed Samuel Eto’o’s record for the highest goal for an African player in a Serie A season, and he is also on the brink of breaking George Weah’s goals record in the Serie A. Osimhen’s displays have caught the eye of some of the best teams in the world. The Nigerian goal poacher has been heavily linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, and Bayern Munich.
