Can Man United stop Erling Haaland on Sunday, or will the Norwegian finally put Erik ten Hag out of his job?

There are very few teams in the world that can go head to head with Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City, let alone when they’re at their brilliant best. Luton Town took on Man City in the 5th round of the FA Cup on Tuesday. The Hatters were in for a long 90 minutes as Erling Haaland chose to go ‘beast mode’ against the bottom-placed Premier League side.
Not one, not two, but five goals from the Norwegian goal-machine stole the headlines in a 6-2 victory for the reigning Premier League champions. As Haaland’s five goals breathe confidence into a City side who are very much in contention to retain their title, other Prem teams are ‘shaking in their boots’. City’s next opponent and familiar rival, Manchester United have all the more reason to be wary of a humiliating scoreline yet again.
Erik ten Hag and co. have been a far cry from their absolute best, if they have, in fact, reached such a position. The Red Devils are 6th in the table, with 44 points in 26 games.
Their most recent game ended in disappointment, as Fulham clinched a late victory at Old Trafford. With warning bells ringing for Ten Hag’s Reds, a big loss against their biggest rivals Manchester City might just be it for the Dutchman to pack his bags.
United fans weary of humiliation as Erling Haaland in red-hot form
Erling Haaland scoring five goals in one game is as surprising as Manchester City winning the Premier League. The Norwegian beast showed the Premier League just why he broke the record for most goals scored in a single season in his debut year. Goals are synonymous with the #9 and Manchester United seem to be his next prey. A fan commented that Erik ten Hag will get sacked at half-time if Haaland keeps up his goal-scoring form.
Others were praying for a scoreline that wasn’t ‘humiliating’ if not anything else. Some supporters couldn’t help but laugh at how the rest of the League was helpless in the face of such a pure talent like Erling Haaland. Claims of him deserving the Ballon d’Or became even stronger after his monumental showing against Luton. Some people still found faults in his performance, stating that he conveniently ‘blanks’ against tougher opposition.
Many laughed at Man United’s ill-fated timing as they get ready to face an invigorated Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland. A fan even said that Haaland will enjoy a ‘statpadding’ session against their rivals on Sunday. Others dragged Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund through the mud, pointing to how United fans compared his scoring streak to Erling Haaland’s poor form. ‘Poor’ for the Norwegian being 5 goal involvements in his last 9 games.
