Erik ten Hag‘s position as Manchester United manager is anything but guaranteed. The Dutchman has had a rather difficult season with the Reds and finds his team sixth in the League table. Following the club’s largely inconsistent displays and early exits from the Champions League and the EFL Cup, several rumors surrounding his sacking are making rounds on social media.
However, despite the club possibly not making the top four and their only hope of silverware coming from the FA Cup, Ten Hag remains confident of his position. From Gareth Southgate to Graham Potter, several names have been linked to United as Ten Hag’s potential successor. However, the Dutch manager said that it was the least of his concerns.
I don't care. My focus is on the process and about playing at our level best. At Manchester United, there will always be noise surrounding the club, manager and players. There will always be an issue.Erik ten Hag said in a press conference ahead of Brentford vs United
Ten Hag is currently in his second season at the club, and has been unable to replicate the success he enjoyed in Eredivisie, with Ajax.
Crucial Man Utd player could make return against Brentford, says Erik Ten Hag
Erik ten Hag has been without a long list of players this season. From unfortunate injuries to suspensions, a number of United stars were absent for crucial games throughout the season. United’s hope of a top-four charge took a significant hit when Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez picked up an injury against West Ham United.
His injury to the right knee saw him miss a list of important games for the club, and owing to his injury, has only made 10 appearances this campaign. Despite initially being ruled out for eight weeks, it had earlier been reported that the player was progressing very well in his recovery. The defender was even called up to join Argentina’s squad for the recent international break.
Ten Hag told the press that there was a chance Martinez could make a return. The manager then added that the club missed him in every game, as he brings a certain composure to the squad.
Ten Hag also praised the defender’s ‘winning attitude’ that he successfully transfers to the rest of his teammates. United signed Martinez back in 2022, for a fee of $58.9 million from Ajax.
