As has been the case on several occasions in the past, Erik ten Hag and co. failed to impress against Brentford in their Premier League matchup on Sunday. The Red Devils were second-best by a mile as the statistics revealed the degree to which they were ‘outplayed’ by their opponents.
Despite conceding a mammoth 31 shots against The Bees, Erik ten Hag found a way to ‘justify’ his teams’ performance. He claimed that even the mighty Manchester City and Liverpool were ‘lucky’ to have come out on top against Brentford. While Man United hung on to salvage a point against them, both City and Liverpool managed to beat Brentford by a margin of more than two goals.
Despite the draw, Manchester United still remain sixth, with 48 points in 29 games. Tottenham Hotspur, who are 5th, enjoy an eight-point lead over the Red Devils. It is unlikely that Ten Hag’s men can overcome such a big deficit and salvage their season by finishing in a Champions League spot. With Ten Hag’s position anything but guaranteed for next season, his comments following the game weren’t received well by rival fans.
Fans react to Erik ten Hag’s ‘shameful’ post-match comments
Erik ten Hag’s side were clearly second-best in yesterday’s Premier League match. The Red Devils, despite conceding 31 shots in total, only let in one, and that too in the 9th minute of injury-time. A fan asked what happened to shame, pointing to City’s 3-1 win in February. Another said that comparing another team’s performance to justify one’s results was a ‘weak’ mentality.
Fans did not forget to bring up Ten Hag’s iconic ‘eras come to an end’ comment, claiming that Ten Hag’s era was surely ending soon. Fans called him ‘shameless’, labelled him a b*m and even said that it was high time that he left the club. Others put Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and Ten Hag in the same bracket, claiming both were equally ‘trash’.
Several fans laughed at United’s poor showing against Brentford and a few supporters said that Ten Hag was fully responsible for the club’s current state. Clips of his side conceding several shots and making defensive errors were spammed in the comments. A fan said that no club or manager were better at coming up with excuses than Ten Hag’s ‘mighty’ Reds. Here are some of the reactions:
The Red Devils take on Chelsea and then Liverpool in their next two games. These fixtures will very well decide their Champions League hopes.
