With Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s take-over of Manchester United now a reality, the billionaire businessman and INEOS have a gargantuan task at hand. Manchester United as a club have been ‘struggling’ to put out consistent results, be it domestically or in Europe. The new club ownership, consisting of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS met with the head coach to sort out immediate matters at hand.
Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has been under pressure for a considerable amount of time following his team’s poor performances as of late. The Dutchman opened up about his recent interaction with INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ten Hag said,
Their personalities and ideas are really great. They impact the process the club has to go in very well.
Ratcliffe earlier announced that he will strive to bring back United to where they are supposed to be, at the ‘summit’ of European football. However, as it stands, United are a far cry from the same, as they find themselves in 8th position in the Premier League, 9 points below the top four. The club has also been eliminated from the Champions League.
Further, Erik ten Hag also expressed his confidence in the new ownership, stating,
I'm very positive and sure that it will be beneficial to Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag issues ‘strange’ WARNING to Manchester United transfer targets
With the January transfer window well underway, Manchester United have already resumed work. Donny van de Beek‘s departure and Jadon Sancho‘s loan deal with Borussia Dortmund are all but done. Amidst the ‘internal’ conflict and transfer dilemma at the club, Ten Hag’s warning to potential new signings may have an ‘adverse’ effect rather than being beneficial.
As if in direct conversation with the club’s potential new signings, Ten Hag said,
It's easy to play for almost any other team than Manchester United.
His claim comes off as no surprise given Van de Beek played just six games for United last season and Sancho was exiled after a conflict with the manager. He urged players to look into themselves and show confidence before choosing United.
The pressure is that high at United always. If you have the confidence, then this is the best challenge and best club you want to be at as a player.
He also stressed that the individual’s ability to adapt and character traits also play a role in shaping their success at United. United’s primary transfer targets Michael Olise, Paulo Dybala, and Serhou Guirassy are all complicated deals as of now.
