Manchester United beat arch-rivals Liverpool 4-0 last night in Eric ten Hag’s first game in charge of the red devils. What’s better is that Manchester United also won the Bangkok Cenetary cup, their first piece of silverware since winning the Europa League in 2017.
Manchester United enjoyed a good game against a Liverpool that didn’t see many first-team players feature. However, most players eventually featured in the second half as United continued to dominate. The highlights of the game are available on MUTV.
Manchester United players looking to adapt quickly under Eric ten Hag
Eric ten Hag, unlike their previous two managers, has a very specific tactical and footballing philosophy. The videos of the Manchester United training session also show that the players have to go through intense workouts under the new boss.
However, the players are looking to adapt well to the new manager’s tactics. The results were clear on the pitch, while Manchester United didn’t dominate in possession much, there were still pressing as one unit and their counter-attacking was superb.
Brazilian midfielder Fred especially had a good game as he scored as well. His chip goal was a cunning strike leaving Liverpool stunned. Youngsters Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri also got on the scoresheet while Anthony Martial also managed a sublime finish.
Manchester United was also able to keep a clean sheet thanks to some superb goalkeeping by David de Gea. The Spaniard’s future seemed bleak under Eric ten Hag but the 31-year-old has continued his splendid form from last season.
However, in the end, Manchester United will be more confident after beating Liverpool, even though it is just pre-season and lifting any piece of Silverware. The Red Devils now travel to Australia for the remaining part of their pre-season tour.
