Manchester City forward Erling Haaland might depart the club, as recent reports suggest, in search of more personal accolades. The rumored decision comes after Lionel Messi’s recent FIFA Best and Ballon d’Or win, which has allegedly convinced the player to consider a different club.
The 23-year-old forward, who signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, made an immediate impact on the Premier League side, winning the treble in his debut season. Haaland scored an impressive 52 goals in 53 matches, placing him as a runner-up in both the Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best awards. Despite being one of Europe’s standout performers last season, Argentinean forward Lionel Messi claimed the titles, leading Haaland to consider his options.
The Norwegian star’s contract with Manchester City lasts until 2027, but his reportedly £170 million release clause, might attract a few top clubs. Real Madrid, among those clubs interested, received a significant boost as the player discussed the possibility of leaving the Citizens with some of his close friends. A move to the Spanish capital might enhance his chances of securing prestigious individual football awards.
