Erling Haaland, the 23-year-old Norwegian striker is undoubtedly one of the top talents in world football. The Manchester City striker joined Pep Guardiola‘s side in 2022, and after a record-breaking debut season is powering through the 2023/24 edition. The prolific striker is settled at Manchester United, with no signs of a sudden departure from the club.
However, reports suggest that Spanish giants Real Madrid are actively looking to sign the player. It is rumored that Los Blancos may turn to Haaland if Kylian Mbappe does not join the club. The Frenchman’s situation at PSG is delicate and a transfer to Real in June is not guaranteed. Moreover, Real are readying to trigger Man City’s release clause of £174 million this summer.
If Mbappe does not join the club, Real are set to go for the Norwegian. Moreover, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta was spotted in Madrid but insists that it was not related to the player’s transfer.
Even though Pimenta has denied any developments about an immediate transfer, the opportunity of brokering a move to Spain in the future has not been turned down.
Erling Haaland injury concern as Chelsea pose next challenge for Manchester City
Erling Haaland was forced off the pitch against Bournemouth in a 6-1 thrashing at the Etihad. Even though the substitution raised several eyebrows, the striker returned to action against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League. His spectacular brace against the Swiss side also got him off the mark in the competition.
Moreover, the upcoming game against in-form Chelsea poses the perfect opportunity to break his goal drought against them. Haaland is yet to score against Mauricio Pochettino‘s side even though the two sides met on 4 different occasions last season. Speaking about the #9’s fitness, Pep Guardiola said:
It was a twist in the ankle and we didn't want to take risks with him. He'll be back maybe next Tuesday or the coming Sunday.
The Spanish boss also added that he hasn’t spoken with the doctors yet and ‘will see how it develops’. Manchester City reclaimed the first position and are in no mood to slip down the table. A hungry Chelsea will look to build on the momentum after a 4-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur. City face Liverpool at home after Chelsea.
