Erling Haaland was crowned PFA Player of the Year after a record-breaking debut season with Premier League Champions Manchester City. He became just the second player in Premier League history to win the accolade in their debut season, after Ruud van Nistelrooy did it with rivals Manchester United back in the year 2002. After signing for the Cityzens in 2022, Haaland made his €60m fee look like the most unbelievable bargain of recent times. Following his arrival at the Etihad, Haaland took no time to get firing on all cylinders. The Norwegian wreaked havoc in the League as he went on to score a monumental 36 goals in 35 league games, breaking the record earlier held by Mo Salah for most goals in a single season.

He scored a brilliant 12 goals in City’s Champions League campaign. A brilliant debut season saw the Norwegian lift the treble with his new club. Haaland won the Premier League, and FA Cup and to crown it all, the elusive Champions League which his side had desperately chasing, ever since their takeover. His debut season was dubbed to be the best debut season of all time by many, fans and pundits alike. Haaland finished first in the PFA award voting, beating club teammates Kevin de Bruyne and Harry Kane to it. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka won the Young Player of the Year Award. Haaland has set a benchmark first season at City with multiple historical achievements.

As the transfer window reaches the end, Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Philips is tipped for a move away from the Etihad. After signing for the Citizens on a £42m fee, 6-year contract, the English midfielder has failed to get any significant playing time. Under Pep Guardiola, the player had just 4 starts during the treble-winning season and is likely to switch clubs this window.

As per reports, Liverpool have shown an interest in the player while other clubs have also come forth. Former Man City player and football pundit Micah Richards has warned City to not sell Philips to rivals Liverpool, stating,” I wouldn’t do that.” He referred to Garbiel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s moves to Arsenal.

Liverpool are keen on adding to their midfield before the window closes and will look to add Philips to their roster as well. Manchester City have multiple departures to sort out, such as Cancelo’s loan deal with Barca and the situation of Cole Palmer.
