The management and decision committee of the Premier League has recently been under pressure to take a serious decision regarding one of the oldest clubs in the league. Everton holds the record for spending the most amount of time in the top-flight division and faces a potential point deduction of around 12 points which could potentially get them relegated.

After reviewing the financial records from the 2021-2022 season, the Premier League referred Everton to an independent committee for investigation. The club is facing major issues such as a breach of the league’s profit and sustainability rules.

While this might not be the only case they’re facing security under,  the commission might levy another fine and/or a transfer embargo, on the club for failing to adhere to the FFP rules. Having already been in a relegation battle last season, Everton is in a tough situation if the expected decision goes against them and finds them guilty.

The club has, however, defended itself saying that it will vehemently fight the allegations. They had reportedly recorded losses in excess of £371.8 million in the last three years, which is significantly higher than the league’s permission at £105 million. If things, do go south for the Merseyside Blues, Sean Dyche will have a massive job on his shoulders to bear and help the club.

The heated Merseyside Derby

Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory in the Merseyside derby against Everton, largely thanks to Mohamed Salah‘s heroics. Salah confidently converted a penalty and added a late goal, bringing his career league goal tally to 201. Despite a one-man advantage following Ashley Young’s red card for Everton, Liverpool initially struggled to score.

The game showcased Liverpool’s continued dominance in the rivalry, as they have now won 27 of their last 28 meetings against Everton. Salah’s performance was the defining factor, providing the much-needed lift for Liverpool. The penalty, awarded after Michael Keane’s handball, and a non-red card decision for Ibrahima Konate may have stirred some debate, but Salah’s skill and composure ultimately made the difference.

Liverpool’s formidable home form remained intact, and Jurgen Klopp secured his ninth Premier League derby win, surpassing the previous record held by Rafael Benitez, highlighting Liverpool’s ongoing supremacy in this fierce rivalry.
