Ex-Brazilian midfielder Neto labels Gabriel Martinelli’s Qatar World Cup call a “lack of RESPECT for football,” due to this reason

Former Brazil player Neto furious on selection of Gabriel Martinelli for Brazil

Gabriel Martinelli has been called up with 25 other Brazilians to play for their country Brazil in the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar. However, the news of the inclusion of Martinelli in the Brazilian squad was not accepted by the former Brazil midfielder who is now a broadcaster Neto, who called it a ‘calamity’ and said Tite’s ‘shame’ in passing over Flamengo star Gabigol in pursuit of Martinelli proves he shouldn’t be the coach in Qatar.

‘Doing this with football shows that you don’t deserve the position you are in. Calling up Martinelli and not calling up Gabigol is a lack of respect. The biggest shame of all the call-ups.’ Neto said per Dailymail.

Martinelli, 21, was performing in Brazil’s fourth division during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, however, he has since risen to success in the Premier League and is now one of Tite’s 26-man squad. Neto continued his vicious attack on the Arsenal youngster, claiming that ‘nobody knows who he is’ in Brazil. Neto believes Gabigol who plays as a forward for club Flamingo deserved the spot and that Tite’s selection of Martinelli over Gabigol was absurd.

‘The guy (Martinelli) who scores five goals in the season, who walks around the mall here, nobody knows who he is… And not taking Gabigol, the guy who scored the goal of the Libertadores title, who scored 29 goals in the season.’, Neto added. Gabigol is an immensely prominent player in Brazil, and he recently scored the game-winning goal to clinch the Copa Libertadores against Corinthians.
