ESPN football pundit, Craig Burley claims Erik ten Hag is the most deluded manager in the Premier League. These strong statements came after Manchester United were beaten three goals to one against Brighton.
Manchester United faced Brighton at Old Trafford this weekend. United hadn’t lost a single game at their home ground since the opening day of last season. De Zerbi‘s men put an end to the streak as the Seagulls won the game in dominating fashion. Erik ten Hag’s players on the other hand faced their third loss of the season in only their fifth game.
This is the first time since the inception of the Premier League that the Red Devils have started so poorly. Critics were up in arms about Erik ten Hag‘s tactics, how the manager was out-schooled, and were all praises for Brighton’s incredible performance.
Craig Burley was infuriated with the United Manager post-game. He described him as ‘deluded’ for considering that Manchester United was ‘unlucky’. “How can you be unlucky when you have a clear penalty denied to Wolves?” the pundit asked furiously. Further, Burley also called out the situation against Nottingham Forest where he believed that Marcus Rashford dived for the penalty. “How can you say Rasmus Hojlund in the Arsenal game was a penalty kick?”, he continued.
However, it is clear that Craig Burley is tired of hearing Erik ten Hag’s ‘excuses’ strongly labeling him as the most deluded manager in the Premier League. Erik ten Hag’s woes may continue as Manchester United travel to Germany to face Bavarian Giants, Bayern Munich.
Erik ten Hag’s list of ‘excuses’
Manchester United’s loss against Arsenal earlier this season was the catalyst for Craig Burley’s outrage towards the manager. United had just lost 3-1 after two late goals by Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.“We needed a little bit more luck to win the game. (Garnacho’s goal) was not offside. It was the wrong angle,” stated the United manager on Garnacho’s late goal which was ruled out by VAR.
Erik ten Hag’s ‘excuses’ pre-date the game at the Emirates as Manchester United were denied a penalty in the game against Tottenham. “It’s justified and it was a clear penalty,” claimed the United Manager. While debates have been made over each dubious decision given or not, Manchester United have failed to excite their fans this season with their worst start to a Premier League season since the re-branding of the League.
Manchester United face Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Brentford in their next three Premier League games. Failure to score anything more than six points out of 9 will seriously hamper any chance of the Champions League next season for United.
