Real Madrid starlet Brahim Diaz, on loan at AC Milan, has made the surprise decision to switch his international allegiance from Spain to Morocco. The 23-year-old AC Milan attacker had previously represented Spain from the Under-17s to the U21s, and even made his senior debut for La Roja in June 2021, scoring in a 4-0 win over Lithuania.

Despite this promising start to his international career, Diaz has not featured for Spain since. Instead, he has decided to represent Morocco, a country for which he qualifies through his parents, who were born there.

This move is a significant loss for Spain, as Diaz is a talented and highly-rated young player. He came through the youth ranks at Manchester City, where he won the Premier League and the League Cup, before finally moving to Milan in 2020 on load from the Santiago Bernabeu. He has since established himself as an important player for the Italian club, known for his creative and attacking abilities.

For Morocco, however, Diaz’s decision to switch his allegiance is a major coup. The Atlas Lions have a strong squad which reached the Semi-Finals of the Qatar World Cup 2022, and Diaz’s addition will only strengthen their chances in International competitions. It will be exciting to see how he adapts to Walid Regragui’s style of play and fits in with the team.

Overall, Brahim Diaz’s decision to switch his international allegiance is a significant one, both for Spain and for Morocco. While Spain will undoubtedly miss his talents on the field, Morocco will be thrilled to have him on board as they look to continue their rise on the international stage.

AC Milan is reportedly looking to negotiate a lower fee with Real Madrid for the permanent signing of Brahim Diaz. The former Manchester City talent is currently on loan with the Rossoneri, and has made 22 appearances for the club across all competitions so far this season, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists.

According to IlMilanista.it, there is currently an agreement in place between the two clubs for a buy-option at 22 million euros, but AC Milan’s management, including Technical director Paolo Maldini and Director Frederic Massara, believe that this amount is too high at the moment. However, the good relationship between the two clubs may help make the negotiations smoother and potentially more successful, as they look to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
