“Fake”- Cristiano Ronaldo rejects a move back to Sporting amidst Manchester United transfer news

On Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo called rumors of a move back to Sporting Lisbon “false news.” This past weekend, rumors about Ronaldo’s improbable comeback to his original teams started to spread.

A photo that has been surfacing on social media purporting to show Cristiano Ronaldo’s vehicle in the parking lot of Sporting’s Jose Alvalade stadium was covered by Portuguese TV station Sport TV on their Instagram feed. Ronaldo, though, discredited the tale by writing on Instagram, “Fake.”

Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United is really in question as it was recently claimed that he wanted to join a different team for the upcoming season.

Cristiano is angry about the possibility of missing out on a spot in the Champions League and worries that the team won’t be able to compete for championships next season. Over the past several weeks, his agent Jorge Mendes has made himself available to a number of teams.

The following clubs have reportedly been contacted thus far: Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, Roma, Napoli, and Sporting Lisbon.

But Ronaldo appears to have dashed Sporting supporters’ hopes of seeing him return to the team where he appeared in 31 games and scored five goals in 2002–03. After being away for 12 years, Cristiano made his highly-publicized move from Juventus back to Manchester United last summer.

The superstar wanted to compete for major prizes and restore Old Trafford to its former grandeur. Man Utd, despite having a stellar individual season with 24 goals in 38 games, had the worst season in Premier League history.

Ronaldo wants to leave the team this summer in order to join a more competitive squad because it was one of the few times in his career that he went the entire season without winning a championship.
