A fan on Twitter has gone viral for fulfilling a promise he made if Joao Felix scored for FC Barcelona. The fan ran naked in Lisbon’s city center fulfilling his promise and shared the video on social media. Felix has now signed for Barcelona on transfer deadline day on a season-long loan, following the Atletico Madrid player’s short 6-month loan spell in London playing for Chelsea.
Appearing out of favor with Atletico coach Diego Simeone, Joao Felix left once again this time for their rivals who wear the colours of Blaugrana. Upon signing for the club, a fan online by the user handle of ‘@astroyazor’ shared a tweet where he stated he would run naked through Marquis of Pombal Square if the Portuguese scored for Barcelona. Felix replied telling him to warm up.
25th minutes into the game against Real Betis, Joao Felix scored Barcelona’s opener. The condition was met and now the promise had to be fulfilled. The fan came good on his promise as he did exactly what he had mentioned. On the 16th of September, the fan vlogged his journey to the designated area and streaked across the location.
The video is titled “Felix, you did your part and I will do mine.” – has garnered over 1.6 Million views on Twitter. Joao Felix also responded to the video, “Falou e fez (Said and did),” he tweeted. Fans will now think twice before challenging the Portuguese to a bet which questions his footballing capabilities.
Joao Felix’s career since Benfica
The Portuguese grabbed headlines after having an incredible ’18/19 with Benfica where he scored 15 goals in 26 appearances for the club. So impressed, Atletico Madrid paid €126 million for the Benfica forward. Along with a seven-year contract- that keeps him at the club till 2027- the club slapped him with a release clause worth €350 million.
While his performances have been decent, he has not reached the heights Atletico had hoped when they first signed the player. Joao has never scored double figures in the league since leaving Benfica and only managed 649 minutes for Atletico last season, equivalent to 7 games. He joined Chelsea on a half-season loan and did well considering Chelsea’s poor season.
The Portuguese forward is now playing for last season’s La Liga champions. Dubbing the club ‘his childhood dream’, if Joao wants to seal a permanent move away from Atletico Madrid, now is the time.
