Italian sources suggest that Jose Mourinho, also known as ‘The Special One,’ could be on his way out of Roma. The club is reportedly considering sacking him if Roma doesn’t win their upcoming game against Cagliari.
Jose Mourinho took over Roma in 2021 after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. During his tenure, the club already lifted the UEFA Conference League and reached the Europa League finals in 2023. However, Roma lost to Sevilla in the final. Now, just four months later, Mourinho is under pressure due to poor results. Roma has won only 2 out of 7 Serie A games this season, struggling to satisfy their fans.
Mourinho’s contract is set to expire in 2024, however, now it seems that it could be cut short depending on the result against Cagliari. Roma fans online believe this should not be the case as the club is suffering due to FFP Restrictions and without the manager’s pull, players such as Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala, and Nemanja Matic may have never joined the club.
Roma currently sit 13th in the league with 8 points in 7 games. With summer signing Lukaku currently leading the club’s scoring leaderboards, Mourinho will hope that his Belgian Talisman protects him from the ‘sack’.

Twitter reacts to Jose Mourinho’s potential sacking
Known for being a short-term manager, Jose Mourinho’s potential sacking has raised eyebrows but also does not come as a surprise to football social media. The Portuguese has never spent more than 3 seasons at the club since the beginning of his coaching career, with the third season usually ending on poor terms.
Fans online have taken the opportunity to mention this fact with many claiming 3rd season syndrome is in full effect. However, many Roma fans disagree with this sentiment as the manager’s pulling power has single-handedly gotten the club several great signings.
Here are some of the reactions:
With Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Roma possibly coming to an end, many have pondered what is next for the Portuguese manager. Many want Mourinho to coach the National Team as the Portuguese public has yet again questioned their FA’s decision to hire Roberto Martinez.
For now, Jose Mourinho is Roma’s manager and with a huge game against Inter Milan awaiting them at the end of the month, the Portuguese will need assurance of ‘job security’ from his board.
