Manchester City has cruised past Bayern Munich in a 4-1 aggregate win in the Champions League Quarter Finals. They will now face Real Madrid in the semi-final stage, who recently defeated Chelsea in the quarters in a 4-0 win on Tuesday.
Manchester City has become the third English team to qualify for the UCL semi-finals in three consecutive seasons. This brings them in equal ranks with Manchester United and Chelsea, who had achieved a similar feat from 2007 to 2009.
The match at Allianz Arena was indeed an electric one, with City performing excellently against the Bavarians. The game also had its fair share of drama, with a galore of yellow cards flowing through its course. The Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel was sent off to the stands from the sideline after receiving two yellow cards in the match.
Erling Haaland has once again come as the City’s hero, scoring the match’s first goal. Although he initially missed a penalty given from Dayot Upamecano’s handball, Haaland’s goal sealed the score in aggregate for City to cruise into the semi-finals.
However, not giving some Bayern players credit for their performance would be unfair. Joshua Kimmich canceled out Haaland’s goal with a penalty in the game’s dying minutes. Although the team could not register enough shots on target, Kingsley Coman seemed to be flying past City’s defense, initially giving Nathaniel Ake a tough time to catch up.
Bayern Munich, in all honesty, failed to show their true potential in these two legs of the quarter-finals. Currently, they find themselves in a difficult position, with fans questioning the team’s form. Some fans have reacted by comparing Bayern Munich to the currently out-of-form Chelsea.

Bayern Munich has always been known for its dominance on the continental football stage. This loss comes as a shocking one for several fans, who believed Bayern had the potential to triumph over Premier League teams. Now, fans think Bayern Munich is the new Chelsea with their current form.
Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, has been a formidable force in Europe, although conquering the continental stage remains for the team. The team looks pretty confident in its run, with Bernardo Silva affirming the same in the post-match interview following the match. With their current form, Manchester City is expected to win the Treble this year.
Fans have also started comparing Manchester City’s current stats, with one fan also highlighting Kevin DeBruyne equalling David Beckham’s career assist tally. Both Beckham and DeBruyne now hold 259 career assists, with DeBruyne playing 15,000 minutes lesser than Beckham.
Praise also flowed in for Joshua Kimmich, who equaled the scoreline 1-1 in Bayern’s fated night at the Allianz Arena. Kimmich had previously never taken a penalty, and now holds 100% penalty conversion rate with this goal.
Reactions have also started flowing for City’s next match against Real Madrid in the semi-finals. The Los Merengues are the current defending UCL champions, and some fans think City might face a defeat against Real Madrid in the next stage.
On the other hand, Inter Milan and AC Milan have both won their quarter-final stages to face each other next in the semi-finals. Overall, the 2022-23 season of the Champions League has been incredible for several teams, with Pep Guardiola having a chance of winning on the European stage while the Milan teams vie to bring back their glory on the continental stage.
