“Horror show; A disaster”- Fans crucify Harry Maguire as Manchester United concede from his error against Sevilla in Europa League
Harry Maguire's lack of composure on the ball cost Manchester United an early goal in the UEL second leg tie.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire found himself in the face of wrath from the United supporters as his mistake gifted Sevilla an early lead in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. Sevilla capitalised on Maguire’s mistake in the seventh minute to lead the tie 3-2.
The goal stemmed from a meekish David De Gea pass to the center back which resulted in the former being swarmed by three Sevilla forwards. However, it was Maguire who was seen asking for the ball in the first place. Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Lamela intercepted the ball and fed it into the feet of Yossef en-Nasyri. The Moroccan placed the ball past a hapless De Gea. This meant En-Nesyri has scored against all the opponents barring Fenerbache in the UEL.
The match started evenly as both the teams went stride for stride. The goal meant the Red Devils would have to chase the game without their star attacker Marcus Rashford.
With this goal, Manchester United will crash out of the competition. The fans have been excited about the way the Dutch coach has revamped the entire side. However, the lack of squad depth has been the bane of the season.

Stats stacked up against Harry Maguire
Eric Ten Haag had to start Maguire and Victor Lindelof as both Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were out with injuries. The 80-million-pound player was frozen by the Dutch coach due to his inability on the ball and lack of pace. The 30-year-old has seen action in just 27 games in all competitions this season, playing 1400 minutes of football.
In the premier league, he has started just seven games with the last two owing to Varane’s injury. The primary reason behind Maguire falling out of favor is because Ten Hag prefers a ball-playing defender. However, Maguire ranks in the 59th percentile for progressive carries, and 55th percentile for pass completion, truly below-average numbers.
Maguire’s numbers do not reflect him in a positive light in last-ditch defending as well. He completes just 1.11 tackles per game, worse than 80% of the players in his position. His 1.37 interceptions per 90 are also below par ranking him in the 61st percentile.
Fans react to Harry Maguire’s mistake
The mistake did not go down well with the fans who were already apprehensive of the Brit. some called Maguire a “horror show” while many asked for the cancellation of his contract.
