Lionel Messi assisted his teammate Sergio Ramos as Paris Saint-Germain defeated OGC Nice to stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points. The Parisian club were coming off the back of two disappointing defeats in the league and needed a good result to stabilize their title charge.

The victory was less than convincing, with Nice managing more shots and shots on target. However, PSG dominated the possession stats and had a marginally better xG, 1.25 to Nice’s 1.22. The scoreboard was opened when Messi slipped in the first goal from a Nuno Mendes cross in the 26th minute. The Argentine then recorded his 14th assist in the league this season when Sergio Ramos headed in his corner in the 76th minute.

The assist to Ramos was Messi’s 1000th goal contribution in club competitions. The World Cup winner now has 28 goal contributions in the league across the season and will be looking to help his club claim their second consecutive Ligue 1 title.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos had been rivals all their life in Spain. The El Clasico always brought out the worst in them, with neither player willing to give an inch. It is now a refreshing change of pace to see the two football legends play together as teammates. Messi and Ramos were both on target in their recent win against Nice, with the Argentine even assisting the Spaniard.
