Roberto de Zerbi and Cristian Stellini were sent off during the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion during the game. The two were involved in pushing and shoving in the dugout during unpleasant scenes off the pitch. Even during the start of the game, the two were seen involved in a verbal scrimmage.

The two had been going at each other even before the game, with the Brighton manager particularly frustrated with Stellini. The Italian could have taken offence to the Spurs boss’ pre-match comments regarding him and Graham Potter. Cristian Stellini mentioned that former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter built the platform for De Zerbi’s success.

I think De Zerbi is not fluid tactically like Potter. De Zerbi is more a manager consistent in the way he wants to hurt the opponent,” he said. “He is more focused with the ball and what they can do with the ball and being aggressive when they lose the ball. Potter was more fluid in the change of system but the players are smart to do it. You have to create intelligent player to do it,” he said.

Stellini recalled some of his battles with De Zerbi as a player and remembered an encounter in the 2008-09 season at Bari and Avellino, respectively, in Serie B. He also “hoped” that De Zerbi would take charge of a top-six club in the Premier League. “I hope for him, but I don’t know. He improved a lot. He has a great personality like a manager and arrives here in a new country and quickly he put his sign on his team. That is not easy for everyone and De Zerbi shows also in England, in the Premier League, he is a great manager.”

The coaching staff from both teams were exchanging words all game, and it eventually became a full-scale brawl. The Premier League will surely reprimand both clubs for their actions.
