Olivier Giroud is the man-of-the-moment for AC Milan. The Milan #9 put in a brilliant cameo in the dying minutes against Genoa. Contrary to his naturally assigned position, Giroud spent the final minutes of the game in between the sticks as Keeper. After Mike Maignan saw red in the dying moments, Giroud donned the Goalkeeper gloves. Giroud was crucial for the narrow win at Genoa.

More surprisingly, Giroud made it into the Serie A Team of the Week. Netizens were surprised to see Giroud as the Goalkeeper in the Serie A team of the week. Giroud put in a historic performance in between the sticks. Against Genoa, the #9 made two crucial saves in the dying moments. Giroud dived fearlessly into the danger area before punching away the ball from a Genoa attacker.

He also made a quick double save to deny Genoa a second chance. Surprisingly, only Giroud makes the team from the entire Milan squad. The likes of Lukaku, Spinazzola, and Paredes have also made the team. Giroud commented that it “felt very special” to have made those saves. “It felt like I scored a goal,” said the Frenchman.

Fans on Twitter have been at a loss of words for Giroud’s shock inclusion. Many feel that it is well deserved. However, fans also opined that this is a “meme gone too far“. A fan commented, “EA gonna give him a GK card soon“. Another said, “The simulation is breaking.”

The win meant that AC Milan went top of the table. As the clubs disperse for the International break, Milan are 1st with 21 points in 8 games. The Rossoneri returns to action against Juventus in a high-octane clash following the break. Giroud has also been called up for to French National team camp as the French are set to face the Netherlands and Scotland in the coming week.
