Declan Rice finally completed his long-awaited move from West Ham United to Arsenal for a total price of £100 million and £5 million add-ons on Wednesday. With this, he became the most expensive Arsenal signing of all time overtaking Nicolas Pepe who joined for £72m in 2019.

The player has been a top target for all the traditional Big 6 clubs in the Premier League ever since he made his debut for West Ham United in 2017. The midfielder was said to have been targeted by both Manchester United and City several times but nothing materialized. The player possesses versatile abilities and can slot in both the CM and the DM positions.

This is a decent option for Mikel Arteta as Rice can replace the possibly departing Thomas Partey as the holding midfielder or Granit Xhaka in a more attacking role. The Xhaka role could be a possibility as Arsenal are also keen on signing Southampton’s Romeo Lavia who mainly occupies the CDM position.

Arsenal have been improving the strength of the team hoping to challenge for the league title after falling short this season finishing second. Other than Declan Rice, they have already signed midfielder Kai Havertz from their city rivals Chelsea and look set to complete a move for Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber. Arteta’s project which started four years ago looks all set to reap its rewards as the Spanish coach looks to have finally built a side that the club and the fans can be proud of.
