Real Madrid defeated Manchester United 2-0 on Thursday. New signing Jude Bellingham scored his first goal within the first five minutes of the game with a chip over Andre Onana. Antonio Rudiger provided him with the assist. Vinicius Jr. almost scored the second goal within minutes, but Onana pulled off a decent save to deny him.
United almost found an equalizer through Marcus Rashford, but he failed to find the target. Lisandro Martinez and Bellingham got into a tussle after the Argentine strongly tackled the latter. He was given a yellow card for it. Post-halftime, the Red Devils looked like an improved team but were unable to create enough chances.
Madrid had another clear shot from Eder Militao in the 69th minute; however, United managed to clear it off the line. At last, Madrid scored in the 89th minute, with Joselu hitting an overhead kick from a cross by Lucas Vasquez. The game took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. There were complaints about the pitch not being up to par, as it caused many injuries.
Kobbie Mainoo had to leave the field due to an injury within the first five minutes of the match, just before Jude Bellingham’s goal. Bruno Fernandes, despite being injured, continued to play and was not substituted.
However, towards the end of the first half, he fell and required treatment. Similarly, at the end of the game, McTominay also needed medical attention for a knee issue. Fernandes is renowned for playing through injuries, and though his injury seemed minor, it might be worth monitoring during United’s final three pre-season fixtures.
