Vinicius Jr. is one of the brightest young forwards in the footballing world. With many of Real Madrid’s old guard leaving the club, changes in the club are in order. Shirt numbers are often adjusted when this occurs, giving the present heroes the proper power level.
The club paid a high price to get Vinicius Jr. to Europe as a youngster because they believed he would play a significant role in the team’s future. Even if plenty of years are left, he is already performing at the highest level, and the signals are promising. The 2022 Champions League winner looks primed to have another stellar season.
The Real Madrid winger has taken on the iconic number seven jersey at Santiago Bernabeu. The seven is a well-known symbol among many club legends, and in Madrid, players like Kopa, Amancio, Juanito, Butragueño, Raul, and Cristiano Ronaldo have all sported it. This has freed up the number 20 at Real Madrid.
The number 20 jersey has been allotted to Fran Garcia. Another change is that Rodrygo Goes has swapped jersey number 21 for 11. The Brazilian winger also put up stellar performances last season. Vinicius would like to fare better than the last two owners of number 7 at Real, with Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz both doing miserably.

Vinicius Jr had an outstanding season for Madrid. He scored 23 goals and assisted 21 goals in all competitions. He was a fan favorite last season and is generally adored by the Madrid public. one fan wrote, “It’s going to be worth it. Vini jnr with “7” will be magical. Welcome to a new era, Madridista.” Another wrote, “Can we call him VR7?” refers to Cristiano Ronaldo and his iconic CR7 nickname.
Another fan added, “I used to pray for times like these.” Another tweet was a fan’s excited reaction saying “I have my joyyyyyyyyyyy bbaaaaaccckkkkkjk.” Fans touted him as the successor to Cristiano as well, one saying, “The successor of Cr7 is @vinijr.” Another fan loved this move and tweeted, “New era begins.”
However, not everyone was convinced by this decision. One fan tweeted, “Insane downgrade.” Followed by another fan, who added: “He is about to destroy his career.” Another fan expressed utter disbelief and said, “NO WAY LMAO.” Another fan did not believe in Vinicus Jr’s skill and commented, “Overrated.”
Thus it is safe to say that Twitter had mixed reactions about Vinicius taking on the iconic No. 7 jersey. While one set of fans believes he shall create a legacy of his own at Madrid. A different set claims Vinicius will not fare well in the iconic jersey. Only time will tell how Vinicius perform with the whole world watching.
