Tottenham Hotspur reached a verbal agreement to sign James Maddison this summer from Leicester City on Wednesday. Spurs were interested in the player since last season but the club was reluctant to let the player leave.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with the Foxes to sign the English midfielder this summer. The fees for the transfer are reportedly going to be about £40m.
Maddison had already agreed on the personal terms with Tottenham. Talks are reportedly advancing to the final stages. Romano reported that medicals would take place within days. And then document signing would be the final stop.
Other Premier League clubs like Newcastle United were also in the race to sign the midfielder. Although the Magpies weren’t able to have the last laugh as Tottenham snatched the player off their hands.
Although Maddison scored 10 goals and had 9 assists to his name in the previous season, Leicester City was relegated to the Championship division. The England star is now determined to leave the Foxes and get a spot back in top-flight football. And Tottenham seems to be his answer to that question.

Tottenham is on the verge to complete the signing of James Maddison for £40 million from relegated Leicester City. The club has always been appreciative of the Foxes’ midfielder and he has been one of their top targets this summer. Leicester was reluctant to sell Maddision last year but the relegation has made them change their decision as the player wants to continue at a top-flight club and thus wants to leave Leicester this summer.
Fans are pretty excited and are praising Tottenham for this smart move of signing Maddison. They think that singing Maddison at this price is an absolute steal.
