Mauricio Pochettino made his managerial debut for Chelsea against newly promoted League 2 side AFC Wrexham in the Florida Cup beating them 5-0. The club is owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. It is also the subject of a sports documentary series called “Welcome to Wrexham.” Thus, it has gained decent popularity in recent years.

Pochettino decided to field a team filled mostly with players from the youth academy, opting to rest the senior players. New signing Nicolas Jackson, who was recently bought from Villarreal, also took part in the first half. Left back Ian Maatsen scored a brace within the first 40 minutes to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead before the half time whistle.
