“He’s a Spurs player again and he bottled it”- Fans react as Harry Kane misses penalty that sends France to 2022 FIFA World Cup semis
France defeated England 2-1 to advance to the World Cup semifinals after Harry Kane’s late penalty miss. After canceling Aurelien Tchouameni’s goal with a penalty in the 54th minute, Kane attempted to replicate the feat with seven minutes remaining but was failed. If he had scored, Kane would have become England’s all-time leading scorer with his 54th goal in international games.
Instead, he blasted far over the top. Between the penalty kicks, Oliver Giroud’s header gave France an advantage that proved decisive as they advanced to a last-four match against Morocco on Wednesday. Substitute Marcus Rashford nearly equalised with the game’s final strike, a free-kick that flashed narrowly past the bar.
Fans were quick to roast England supporters on Twitter after continuously chanting “It’s coming home” for few years. Captain Harry Kane was mocked for missing the penalty which was associated with him being a Spurs player in big moments. Jokes aside, England were the better team but could not break France’s resolute defense in open play.
