The latest edition of El Classico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid has been quite a thriller. FC Barcelona won the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final with a slender 1-0 lead. The teams performed quite well for the better part of the first half. Although, Real Madrid brought the score line to a tie of 1-0. Credit goes to Vinicius Jr who scored right at the edge of half-time in the 46th minute.
In the second half, Real Madrid had more command of the game than rivals Barcelona. Karim Benzema’s hat trick helped Madrid tighten their grip. Benzema first scored in the 50th minute of the game. His next goal came from the 6-yard box as FC Barcelona had conceded a penalty in the 58th minute. And in the 80th minute, Benzema scored his third. This sealed the deal for Real Madrid who now qualified for the Copa Del Rey final to face rivals Osasuna.
Real Madrid’s Vini was a question that Ronald Araujo couldn’t answer in Camp Nou. Vini humiliated and toyed with Araujo for most parts of the match. Ronald Araujo was reportedly furious. He was even seen to push the Brazilian winger. Although in an after-match interview, referring to that moment, Araujo said, “I always try to respect my opponents, but I got a little hot tonight.”.
This emphatic victory against their arch-rivals Barcelona, would definitely help Real Madrid gain confidence for the finals. Benzema’s latest form is also great news for the team as they are going to face Chelsea in the UCL Quarterfinals next.
