Neymar Jr. stretchered off injured against Lille

PSG sensation Neymar Jr. suffered an injury blow yet again against league rivals LOSC Lille on Sunday (19 February 2023). The left-winger twisted his ankle during the second half of the Ligue 1 game at PSG’s home stadium Parc des Princes. Despite scoring the second goal for the club, Neymar failed to witness the end of the game as he was stretchered off the pitch.

The 31-year-old tried wiggling past the midfield when he suddenly twisted his right ankle and went down on the ground in pain. PSG’s medical team immediately arrived to attend to the star footballer. After a short inspection, PSG took the decision to call Neymar back as he was in no condition to continue. The Brazilian player has been very unfortunate with his injuries during his time in France.

As per reports from Le Parisien, Neymar Jr. will most likely miss PSG’s next game against arch-rivals Marseille. He will also most likely stay out of action for the Champions League second-leg fixture against Bayern Munich. The winger has taken a hit on the same ankle that he injured while playing for Brazil in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“Ney has sprained his ankle. We will see how serious it is. We don’t know yet. He is undergoing tests at the moment,” PSG boss Christopher Galtier reported to the French media after the match. Galtier also addressed Nuno Mendes’ injury as ‘not so serious’. The left-back was also forced out of the field in the first half of the same match.
